About Sherwood

The leafy suburb of Sherwood is flourishing as a new generation of families discovers its growing appeal.

The inner western suburb, located only 8 kilometres from the heart of the Brisbane has long enjoyed a reputation as a family friendly address.

Flanked by a wide stretch of the Brisbane River, the suburb derives its name from one of the original farms that occupied much of the area in the mid 1850s.

Sherwood has an established business district which includes a Woolworths and many thriving small businesses located near the train line on Sherwood Rd. You will find a high density precent with many unit and townhouse complexes located on Sherwood Rd and Primrose St giving many young couples and families a chance to move into the area with entry level pricing.

More than that, Sherwood is home to some of the areas most exclusive homes, with large allotments and wide streets.

The Sherwood Forest Park (later renamed the Sherwood Arboretum) was laid out in 1924, with the historic arboretum showcasing a broad range of tree species. Since its inception, the parkland and artificial freshwater wetland has always been popular with local residents as it is with the local birdlife.

In recent years Sherwood has also received an influx of excellent cafés and restaurants to secure the area as a suburb with family appeal.

Our Tip:

  • Book a BBQ area at the Sherwood Aboretum. There is plenty of room for the kids to play, whether it be on the playground or a game of soccer or cricket.
  • Head to the Rocklea markets on Sherwood Rd for the freshest food available in Brisbane. This is always a fun way to kick start a Saturday morning.
